Due in part to the location of the 2+2 gas tank, the routing of the pipes leading to the mufflers have fairly sharp angles to them. The 2+0 has less of a sharp bend to their muffler pipes. This applies to the aftermarket catback systems. Your idea of simple trimming to a 2+2 catback to fit a 2+0 will not be simple at all.
